Volunteer McKinney hosts The Spirit of Volunteerism Awards every year to recognize and honor individuals
and groups for their outstanding contributions to community service and volunteerism in Collin County.
This annual event celebrates the spirit of giving back and inspire others to get involved in meaningful ways.

Deadline for volunteer award nominations is January 31, 2024.

*The top three nominee finalists for each category will be recognized.
*Nominees will receive 2 complimentary tickets to the event (nominee and guest).
Nominators wishing to attend will need to purchase tickets.
*Please submit a nominee for one category, not multiple categories per nominee.
*Volunteerism related to a nominee’s employment obligations falls under the Business Service Award.
*Volunteer McKinney can move a nominee to a different category.

Individual Awards

Special 25 Years of Service Award

This is a one-time only award in honor of Volunteer McKinney’s 25th anniversary.

It will be presented to an individual who has consistently served our community for 25 years, or more, and is continuing to do so today.

Has inspired others to get involved and serve the community through volunteering and philanthropy.

Has often helped develop partnerships between businesses, nonprofits and schools to effect significant impact.

This person has been a shining beacon of what it means to serve the Collin County community.

When nominating for this award, please provide details that validate service over the 25+ year required timeline.

Pete & Nancy Huff Community Service Legacy Award

Presented to an individual who has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the community through passion and dedication to volunteerism, board service, and/or leadership of groups or nonprofit organizations.

This person has been championing and meeting the needs of worthy charitable causes in the Collin County area for over 10 years.

Pete and Nancy Huff Founded Volunteer Mckinney in 1998.

Volunteer of the Year Award

Presented to an individual who exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism through giving time and/or talents to numerous organizations in the Collin County area.

One who demonstrates a passion for meeting the many worthy needs of the community.

This person goes the extra mile in their work by providing exceptional leadership and dedication to address community challenges.

The Heart of Service Award

Presented to an individual(s) who consistently provides significant volunteer service to one Collin County area nonprofit organization in particular.

This person has supported or engaged in volunteer activities that have been instrumental to the success of the nonprofit.

They have been a champion for the nonprofit and those they serve through participation, advocacy and inspiring others to get involved which has had a dramatic impact on the agency and/or the worthy clients they serve.

Education Champion Award

Presented to a public or private school, home school group, or other educational entity that intentionally inspires and demonstrates, through curriculum, programs, and community service initiatives, the powerful impact of volunteerism and serving others in the Collin County area.

This award recognizes those who go above and beyond to develop the next generation of civic-minded, socially engaged volunteers.

Youth Servant Leader of the Year Award

Presented to an individual under the age of 21 years of age who demonstrates exemplary service through volunteering efforts and/or philanthropic endeavors to support underserved populations in the Collin County area.

This person mobilizes others to achieve measurable impact on critical issues within our community and demonstrates leadership, commitment to service, and has the ability to inspire others of all ages to serve.

Group Awards

Business Service Award

Presented to a Collin County area business for their demonstrated contributions of time, talents, and/or finances within the community.

This business actively empowers its employees to serve our community by including volunteerism as a core value of their business.

They also support nonprofits through employee engagement programs and/or sponsorship of worthy community events. 

This is the only award that can be given to paid staff.

Volunteer Group Award

Presented to a distinct group of volunteers who have joined together in volunteer service to others by contributing time and/or talents to a Collin County area nonprofit organization and/or cause and demonstrating a passion for meeting the worthy needs of our community.

  • *The top three nominee finalists for each category will receive a special invitation and 2 complimentary tickets to the event (for the nominee and their guest)
  • *Please submit a nominee for one category, not multiple categories per nominee.
  • *Paid staff should be nominated for the Business Service Award for their service, not for volunteer awards,
  • *Volunteer McKinney reserves the right to move a nominee to a different category.
  • *Only the information provided on this form will be used in the selection of award winners
