Employee Engagement

Volunteer McKinney is devoted to making our local non-profit community the best it can be and we know that without support from local businesses the good work these agencies do just would not get done. We want to offer you simple steps to engaging your employees in service to local non-profits that will benefit the employees' lives, the agencies they serve and your company's productivity. Here's how to do it.

  1. Have someone in your company sign up as a volunteer on www.volunteermckinney.org so you will receive all the latest information on volunteering in McKinney and about special volunteer events where your employees can volunteer as a group representing your company.
  2. Consider forming a "Community Service Committee" to be sure your company is plugged in to serving.
  3. Decide what causes are most closely related to your business or ask your employees to vote on which local non-profits mean the most to them.
  4. Contact the Agencies and ask them to provide you with the following:
    1. Current budget
    2. Mission Statement
    3. Number of clients served and a list of service provided
    4. Wish List
    5. Ideas for group volunteer opportunities
  5. Once information is received you can decide which agencies you want to support with your donations and the time of your employees.
    1. Consider allowing your employees a few hours off per month to volunteer.  Don't worry about asking the agency to verify your employee's service hours. They'd be glad to!
    2. Consider offering a "Donation Matching Program" for your employees. When they give a dollar to a registered non-profit, you can match it at any rate you see fit. Some do "dollar for dollar" up to a certain amount or others do a percentage. Either way, it is a great way for you to recognize your employee's philanthropy!
  6. Recognize your employees for their service to the community at your annual events.
  7. Offer "brown bag" lunch training for you employees that will show them how to volunteer. (Volunteer McKinney will be glad to do this for you!)
  8. Consider offering the local non-profits a discount on your services. It's a great way to show them you care!
  9. Advertise local volunteer events in your company's newsletter or intranet communication network.
  10. Place a statement of support on your web page about your commitment to local nonprofits and the community they serve.
