About Us

In 1998, several forward-thinking community leaders wanted to establish a volunteer center that would assist citizens in finding local volunteer opportunities and serve as support to local nonprofits and community groups that utilize the power of volunteerism. These leaders saw a willing volunteer base without a central place to find opportunities and an amazing group of service organizations that were in dire need of volunteers. To fill this gap, they formed Volunteer McKinney. Since 1998, Volunteer McKinney has connected volunteers to local nonprofit organizations and has provided assistance to organization. Volunteer McKinney has also served this community through community-wide events such as the National "Make a Difference Day", the Summit on Youth and Community Volunteer Recognition Events.

Volunteer McKinney knows that there is still work to do, and we are committed to help McKinney remain one of the greatest places to live and raise a family. We are moving into a new era at Volunteer McKinney and hope you will join us as we support this community and reach out to others through service in new and exciting ways!

Volunteer McKinney operates with one paid staff member and countless volunteers, including our Board of Directors, who are committed to assisting volunteers in connecting with their passion and making local nonprofits the best they can be.

The Executive Director of Volunteer McKinney is Dana Riley. She brings over 20 years of experience working with local, county, state and federal governments, local and national non-profits and Fortune 500 companies. Her ability to communicate with all kinds of people through her storytelling and humor make her a popular speaker and trainer. She has expertise in many areas but her work in community collaboration, volunteer management and critical incident response have garnered her recognition at the national level. Mrs. Riley has authored numerous curriculums for training government employees and volunteers and frequently incorporates games and activities that bring the principles taught in the classroom to life. She has developed many unique programs to address the needs of a particular community and enjoys the collaboration that comes with that process.  Dana was named one of the top 25 women in business for 2015 by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, named a finalist for the Junior League of Collin County's Excellence in Volunteer Services Award and received the 2016 Quality of Life Award from the McKinney Community Development Corporation.
